Bay leaves (laurus nobilis) are more usually used in cooking to flavour stews and casseroles. However, Bay Laurel essential oil smells particularly pleasant – spicy, exotic, warm, a bit masculine, and Christmassy. In aromatherapy it is not widely used but a bath with a 10 drops of the essential oil is said to be good for relieving rheumatic aches and pains. It also has some antiseptic, bactericidal and fungicidal effects.
