Dried Lavender Flower Buds Information

The following is information on dried lavender flower buds bought in bulk (min 0.5kg). Typically, this is used by most of our customers to make lavender bags.

Please note that due to restrictions on the movement of plant material into some areas we can ONLY supply dried lavender to the UK and Europe. We cannot supply to the USA, Canada and Australia. 

All the lavender is grown and dried on the farm here in Jersey. The lavender is harvested just before the flower buds open in June and July and is laid out on clean plastic sheets in the sunshine to dry. The drying takes a couple of days if the weather is good. Once the flowers are dry they are gently hand-rubbed from the stalks and sieved to remove most pieces of stalk and leaves. The lavender is then stored in cloth sacks in a cool, dry and dark cellar.

The dried lavender bud product that we sell is generally a blend of our Lavandula angustifolia (English lavender) and Lavandula intermedia (Lavandin) species. The angustifolia has a softer, more floral lavender scent, and better colour whilst the intermedia has a more robust, penetrating scent. In our opinion you get the best of both worlds by blending the two types of lavender.

If you would like better colour or stronger fragrance please let us know and we can supply entirely English lavender or Lavandin.

Bulk dried lavender is supplied in polythene bags, tied so that they can be closed up again after opening.

We are often asked what sort of quantity a kg is as customers are unsure about how much that they will need for their lavender bags. One kg will fill a large bucket, and a half kg a shoe box (it fits quite neatly into a 6" x 6" x 8" box!

As with all our online items this price does not include Post & Packing which is at the standard rate of £4.50 per order to the UK or 33% of the order value to European destinations.
