How To Mix Your Lavender Oil

Last week we looked at some of the best ways that you can use our wonderful, velvety, deeply fragranced and aromatic lavender essential oil directly on the skin. For example you can massage a few drops of lavender oil directly onto your temples to relieve the symptoms of headaches and migraines, apply a drop three times a day to treat warts and apply to spots to reduce swelling and increase the speed of healing.

However, there are also a myriad of ways to use our fantastic lavender essential oil when added to a number of other carrier products.

For a wonderfully relaxing massage – simply mix a few drops of lavender oil into a carrier oil, such as olive or sweet almond. You can then use this wonderfully aromatic and soothing oil to massage your stresses away and encourage a great night’s sleep – or if using during the day, ensure you leave time for a nap afterwards!

To treat scars – again mix a few drops of lavender essential oil into a carrier oil, or fragranced emollient cream and massage this into scar tissue two or three times a day. Lavender’s wound healing properties will then help to increase the speed that scar tissue will fade.

To treat scalp irritations – if you have any of a number of mild scalp conditions, including dandruff, or to help control greasy hair, add a couple of drops of lavender oil to your shampoo and/or conditioner. Not only will washing your hair smell amazing (the heat of the water will really help to release the lavender aromas), but the antibacterial and antifungal properties of lavender can help to control irritation and control the scalp’s sebaceous secretions.

Use lavender oil in your oil burner
– not only will this release a wonderful fragrance into your room, but it can also help to freshen and purify air in rooms that have been shut up for some time. Releasing lavender fragrance in an oil burner can also act as a fantastic natural insect repellent, and can help to relieve the symptoms of respiratory problems.

To relieve external pain and inflammation – massage with lavender essential oil mixed into a carrier oil, can be incredibly effective in relieving muscular pain and inflammation. This can also be used to sooth the tightness of a chest infection and respiratory discomfort.

To treat mouth, gum and throat infections (including halitosis) – mix 1 or 2 drops of lavender essential oil with water and gargle (do not swallow). This will allow lavender’s antibacterial properties to get to work on the infection.

PLEASE NOTE THAT LAVENDER OIL SHOULD ONLY BE USED UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A QUALIFIED MEDICAL PRACTITIONER OR AROMATHERAPIST, AND SHOULD NEVER BE USED IN REPLACEMENT OF ANY OTHER PRESCRIBED MEDICAL TREATMENT. ESSENTIAL OILS SHOULD NEVER BE USED BY PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING WOMEN, AND SHOULD NEVER BE SWALLOWED OR USED INTERNALLY.
